The Qatar Press Center expresses its surprise at the Palestinian Authority’s decision to stop broadcasting Al Jazeera Channel, and freeze the work of its office and employees in Palestine, and the allegations it contained about the channel’s violation of the laws and regulations in force in Palestine, and the claim that Al Jazeera insists on broadcasting provocative materials, misleading and seditious reports, and its interference in Palestinian internal affairs.
The Center affirms its solidarity with Al Jazeera in the face of such decisions that follow the approach of the Israeli occupation, and aim to silence the voice of truth, and prevent free media from performing its duty, based on inflammatory allegations against the channel and its correspondents who have paid and continue to pay a heavy price in terms of their safety and lives in order to document the occupation’s massacres and ongoing crimes of genocide against the people of Gaza since October 7, 2023.
The Center stresses that the Palestinian Authority's security restrictions on journalists and media professionals achieve Israel's goals of silencing journalists through assassination, arrest, intimidation and prosecution, and preventing them from reporting the crimes taking place against the Palestinian people to the world. It is noteworthy that the Palestinian Authority decided to stop broadcasting and freeze all the work of Al Jazeera Channel and its office in Palestine, and to temporarily freeze the work of all journalists, employees, crews and channels affiliated with it, on the pretext of "violating the laws and regulations in force in Palestine." The relevant ministerial committee, consisting of the Ministries of Culture, Interior and Communications, decided to stop broadcasting the channel until "its legal status is corrected," according to what was reported by the Palestinian News Agency "Wafa."
