The Qatar Press Center condemns in the strongest terms the killing of the two journalists, brothers Ahmed and Zahraa Abu Sakhil, their father and three others, and the injury of a number of displaced persons yesterday morning in the occupation’s bombing of Fahd Al-Sabah School in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood east of Gaza City, bringing the number of journalist martyrs since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza last year to 186 journalists, both male and female.
The Center reiterates its condemnation of the continued targeting of journalists in Gaza by the Israeli occupation forces with killing and abuse, the latest of which was the assassination of the two brothers, Ahmed and Zahraa Abu Sakhil, with their helmets and vests, while they were performing their media duties to cover the events taking place in the Gaza Strip.
The Center affirms that the Israeli army’s targeting of journalists’ homes and locations inside Gaza and inside schools housing displaced persons is a flagrant violation of international law and a heinous crime to silence the free media and obstruct its transmission of the truth to the world.
Palestinian journalist Karim Hassan posted a video on his personal Instagram account showing the wreckage of the school, the remains of the martyred journalists’ clothes, and the famous press protection vests on the chests of Palestinian journalists.
The Palestinian News Agency reported that the school was sheltering a number of displaced people fleeing areas of heavy shelling, and the attack resulted in civilian casualties, including the two journalist brothers, who were performing their media duties to cover the events taking place in the Gaza Strip. This incident comes as part of a series of attacks on residential areas and public facilities in Gaza, increasing the number of martyrs and wounded, amid international calls to stop the military escalation and protect civilians.
