An American journalist set himself on fire near the White House in Washington, DC, in protest against the genocide being committed by the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip. Social media accounts reported that the person is an American journalist who supports the Palestinians.

Various local reports confirmed that the man is an American journalist named Samuel Mina Jr., who works for CBS, which has faced heavy criticism for deliberately publishing false and misleading news about the Israeli aggression on Gaza. Scenes on social media showed US police intervening to prevent the journalist from setting himself on fire during a solidarity demonstration marking the first anniversary of the war of extermination in Gaza. While the person was trying to set himself on fire, he shouted : "I am a journalist.. please stop the fake news." The footage showed the person suffering burns on his arm.

Officials said the man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to ABC affiliate WJLA. This is not the first incident of its kind.

Earlier this year, Aaron Bushnell, a former active-duty member of the US Air Force, died after setting himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy, saying, “I will no longer be complicit in genocide,” before pouring an unknown liquid over himself and setting himself on fire. This demonstration is one of many that have swept the streets of Washington, D.C., over the past year, demanding an end to U.S. aid to Israel.

“Today marks 363 days since the blockade on Gaza began, and our numbers here today prove that people have not forgotten the acts of terror committed by the US and Israel,” the protest organizers said on Instagram. Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation has continued a genocidal war in the Gaza Strip, leaving more than 41,909 martyrs, most of them children and women, and the death toll has risen to 97,303, amid massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of dozens of children, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world
