Qatar Press Center welcomes the ceasefire agreement in Gaza

The Qatar Press Center welcomes the announcement by His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, regarding the agreement between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire in Gaza, set to take effect on Sunday, January 19. Qatar, Egypt, and the United States are working to ensure its implementation.

The center affirms that reaching this agreement is the culmination of the efforts of the State of Qatar under the directives and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, and his steadfast commitment to alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people. Qatar will continue its efforts with its partners to ensure the full implementation of the agreement, thereby enhancing security and stability in the region.

The center highlights the significance of the agreement in facilitating the safe and effective delivery of humanitarian aid across Gaza. This includes the rehabilitation of hospitals, health centers, bakeries, the provision of civil defense supplies, fuel, and shelter essentials for displaced individuals who have lost their homes due to the war.

The center also renews its tribute to journalists and media professionals who have made great sacrifices, with 206 journalists having lost their lives to date while conveying the truth and the suffering of Gaza’s residents to the world. It calls on the international community, along with UN organizations and human rights and media institutions, to condemn the targeting of journalists and their families in Gaza through killing, detention, and intimidation. It urges immediate action to hold the Israeli occupation accountable before international courts for the assassination of Palestinian journalists.

Furthermore, the center calls on the international community to pressure Israel to release journalists detained in Israeli prisons, who are enduring harsh conditions that deprive them of the most basic rights afforded to prisoners under international laws and conventions.
