Al Jazeera English wins AIB award for coverage of Gaza war

Al Jazeera English has won the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) Award in the “Continuous News Coverage” category for its coverage of the ongoing genocide and war in Gaza. The channel was announced as the winner of the award during the 20th annual ceremony of the International Broadcasting Association, which was held last Friday in London. The channel came ahead of media institutions including CNN, BBC, and ITV.

The award jury viewed an hour-long clip highlighting the most important clips from the channel’s and its correspondents’ coverage of the Israeli war on Gaza and the genocide committed by the occupation army for more than a year in the Strip. Al Jazeera English's acting director, Issa Ali, said : "This award reaffirms our commitment to providing distinguished journalism, with a focus on human stories. I am proud of the channel's team's tireless work to uncover the truth and cover the event, especially our colleagues in Gaza who work in extremely difficult conditions." Since its launch, Al Jazeera English has provided news coverage from around the world, focusing on topics and stories that touch people’s lives and daily lives. It is the only international English channel still operating in Gaza, despite the closure of the network’s offices in Jerusalem and Ramallah.

Al Jazeera English's Director of News, Salah Najm, said: "Our journalists are committed to conveying the image of what is happening in Gaza with professionalism and objectivity, and highlighting the suffering of the Palestinians there. I commend the work of our wonderful field team members who risk their lives every day, and unfortunately, a number of them have paid a high price in order to convey the truth." Since October 7, 2023, Al Jazeera English has continued to broadcast news of the war on Gaza, the daily displacement, and the ongoing bombing that has claimed the lives of more than 40,000 people. Its correspondents continued to broadcast the event despite being directly targeted by themselves and their families.
