The Qatar Press Center strongly condemns the assassination of journalist Mahmoud Issa Abu Sharbi as a result of an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip, raising the number of journalists killed since the beginning of the genocide in Gaza to 230.

According to local sources, the Israeli bombing targeted a group of civilians near the Training College in the Ansar Government Complex west of Gaza City, resulting in five martyrs, including journalist Abu Sharbi—who was already suffering from a previous injury in an earlier Israeli strike—as well as a woman and a child. Several others were also injured.

The Qatar Press Center confirms that Israel, which has been waging a genocidal war against the people of Gaza since October 7, 2023, continues to commit systematic massacres against journalists, media personnel, and medical teams by targeting their locations and homes with missiles and drones to silence their voices and prevent them from conveying the truth to the world, favoring Israeli narratives and propaganda.

The Center reiterates its call to the international community, UN bodies, and human rights and media organizations to condemn the targeting of journalists in Gaza and to take urgent action to hold the Israeli occupation accountable before international courts for war crimes against journalists. The ongoing impunity has emboldened Israeli forces to continue assassinating, arresting, and terrorizing journalists in full view of the world.
